For a number of years now Spencer Cobby Photography has been providing exacting colour accurate e-commerce photography for the Merchant Fox a subsidiary of the Wellington based high-end mens clothing company Fox Brothers.
Project: Photograph – Mens Lounge Gowns:
When photographing fabrics like silk they give off a sheen that is very iridescent. Capturing this sheen can some times quite hard. I had to work though many subtle lighting variations before I settled on right lighting set up to achieve the clients desired look. It is important to me and especially with a hight quality product like these that I keep the client updated as we shoot the products. Direct and up to date feedback is very imported especially when looking at fabrics. Often colours change under different lighting conditions and so having this feedback is vital to making sure the client is happy and the product is represented as best as it can be. To get this feedback I use a few technologies that really do help me in todays remote working world. I use, Capture One Live which shares the images in my Capture One catalogue with my customer in realtime. They can view the images, star rate, colour tag, and leave comments for me to use, as we work through each image and each product. All the while in in my studio and the client is at his or her desk. I often combine this with Apple’s FaceTime or Microsoft Teams to talk to the client at the same time.
The clients website, has a very deliberate style of e-commerce photography. They use a mixture of White background cutout photography, coupled with luxurious detail shots to describe this product’s.
My brief for this set of products was to copy the style of photography of previously shot Lounge Gown products. This included the main front on white background shot of the gown on the Mannequin followed by 6 other details build up a luxurious overview of the product for the viewer and leave you in no doubt that you are buying a very special product.

This project took 2 days shoot the Gowns, these were edited and the final images were delivered to the client by the end of the week.
